Ingredients
Candle wax
Clean Slate Candle Co uses all-natural soy wax with soy-based additives in their candles. Produced from US grown soybeans, this sustainable resource creates clean burning candles with a great scent throw.
Please note because we use all-natural soy, it is very common for the candle tops to develop pits and uneven tops after burning. This is simply a part of soy candles and proves that the wax you’re burning is actually soy. Many companies add paraffin to the soy to stop this from happening (and reduce their cost) but burning petroleum products (paraffin) can release carcinogens and black soot into the air.
We at Clean Slate Candle Co believe that cleaner, is better. Our candles are 100% all-natural US soy. We use Clean Fragrances and do not add dyes unless specifically mentioned in a product description.
100% Vegan.
Flameless Wax
We use blended soy wax for all our wax melts. The wax is made with 100% soybean oil from USA-grown soybeans, with soy-based additives to improve quality. It is a fully plant based, natural wax.
Some of our wax melts also contain a percentage of white beeswax. We use pure white beeswax that has been filtrated to remove color and odor. Beeswax has a longer melt time meaning the product will last longer. The result is natural wax melts with good scent throw. Adding beeswax does mean the product is no longer vegan, so beeswax will be listed on the specific products description when it is used.
Fragrance
Our scents do not contain the hazardous chemicals commonly found in other fragrance oils. Clean Slate Candle Co only uses oils that:
- are free of phthalates
- do not contain cancer causing ingredients that require a Proposition 65 warning in California
- do not use ingredients similar to those on the Prop 65 list.
Many companies call the above fragrances “clean.” Clean Slate however, goes above and beyond to offer safer products by only using Fragrance Oils that do NOT contain:
- carcinogens
- mutagens
- reproductive toxins
- organ toxins
- acute toxins (toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure.)
The fragrance oils are a combination of natural essential oils, synthetic aroma chemicals, solvents, and diluents. Fragrance oils are considered synthetic even though they contain natural components. Unlike essential oils, they are formulated to be safe and consistent. Clean Slate Candle Co is committed to using the safest products available on the market. The companies we utilize are committed to maintaining safe, high quality, thoroughly tested fragrances. We research the products of our suppliers thoroughly so you can purchase worry-free. The fragrance oils we use adhere to RIFM and IFRA standards for safety and purity.
You can feel safe using products from Clean Slate Candle Co!
Allergy alert: Many of our fragrances do contain small amounts of vanillin. This will be listed in the description of any such products.
DYE
Clean Slate Candle Co uses two different types of dye in our products. While many of our products are dye free, some products do contain color from block or liquid dyes.
Dye Blocks are colorants suspended in a paraffin base whereas Liquid Dyes are not. If a product was created using Block Dyes, it will be listed on the item description.
Both types of dye are composed of synthetic chemicals and colorants and are not considered natural products. However, we still make sure that our dyes do not contain carcinogens, cyclic compounds or items listed on Proposition 65. They are safe when used for their intended purpose of coloring wax. They are never tested on animals and are certified cruelty-free!
Wicks
We do not use metal in any of our wicks. Clean Slate Candles have all cotton wicks with tiny strips of paper to increase sturdiness.
Diffusers
The liquid we use in our diffusers is made to flow easily up the reeds. It is 100% biodegradable and:
-non-toxic
-Di Propylene Glucol (DPG) free
-made with 50.1% renewable resources
We only add approved Clean Fragrances to our diffuser solution. See the fragrances description for a detailed description.
Diffuser Reeds
Natural Reeds
We offer all-natural, responsibly harvested rattan reeds. They are 3 mm in diameter, for maximum absorption. Our reeds are precision-cut on specialized equipment. Without a sharp, clean-cut, the 20+ cells that make up the reed get compressed and aren’t able to carry the fragrance to the top of the reed.
Fiber Reeds
Designed for enhanced performance our Gray Fiber Diffuser Reeds resist clogging, carrying fragrance to the top of the reed and into the air with ease. Fiber reeds have a sleek, uniform look and subtle sheen that blends effortlessly into various brand aesthetics.
Directions:
Place 6-8 reeds in the bottle. We recommend 6-8 reeds as a starting point, but you may choose to add more. Know that the more reeds you use, the more fragrance is released, and the quicker the liquid is used up.
Additives
Clean Slate Candle Co will occasionally add items to our wax melts for decorative purposes. Additives will be listed in the specific product description and may include the following.
GLITTER
We use only cosmetic grade glitter in our products. This means our glitters are safe for the skin and not harmful when warmed, unlike plastic glitters.
MICA
Mica powders can add beautiful color to wax melts. At Clean Slate Candle Co, we only use ethically sourced, cruelty-free mica. All of our micas come from a company that is committed to high ethical standards.
Please read: Titanium dioxide is a common ingredient in mica that is known to the state of California to cause cancer only while in the form of “airborne particles of respirable size.” Once mixed into a base like wax, mica is no longer on the Prop 65 list, thus we do not need to list this on our products. We do, however, believe in honesty, which is why we include this information. Mica in melted wax is safe.
Mica can be difficult to clean out of wax warmers. We recommend wetting a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and then wiping down the wax tray/bowl. For hard to clean or strong scent areas, sprinkle baking soda into the pot. Use a wet cloth to gently scrub the baking soda around the pot. Let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse and dry.
SPRINKLES
Clean Slate Candle Co will occasionally use sugar sprinkles, jimmies, or pearls to decorate wax melts. These items are food grade and will either melt or sink to the bottom. Many of these items are placed on the outside of the melt for easy removal before melting.
